O presidente do Banco Central (BC), Roberto Campos Neto, afirmou, durante a Lide Brazil Conference, evento com investidores que acontece em Londres nesta sexta-feira (21/4), que a economia não gira em torno do atual patamar da taxa básica de juros (Selic). Ao ser questionado por um empresário de que o atual patamar dos juros impedia o Brasil de crescer, o chefe da autoridade monetária explicou que apenas 20% do crédito é ligado à Selic e o restante é ligado a taxas longas.”O que move o Brasil não é a taxa de juros de um dia, é a taxa de juros de três, cinco, 10 anos. Para fazer que a queda da Selic gere um movimento de queda prolongada de juros, precisa ter credibilidade. O Banco Central está esperando o melhor momento para fazer para que isso tenha um ganho real para as pessoas. A economia não gira na Selic”, declarou Campos Neto, que disse que “obviamente, o BC quer cair o juro”, mas ponderou que, se a movimentação não for feita com “credibilidade”, a taxa a longo prazo continuará alta.
